Customer Service Sales Scripts: Setup & Practice Guide

Create useful sales and support call scripts with discovery questions, handoffs and clear next steps. Includes a downloadable script planning worksheet.

What should a customer service sales script include?

Use a recognizable greeting, a question that clarifies the customer's goal, a concise explanation of the relevant next step and a confirmation of what happens afterward. Keep support resolution and sales discovery appropriate to the caller's request. In Chirply, scripts contain ordered steps and separate objection handlers, with previewable fields and fallbacks.

Call script practice worksheet

Adapt the illustrative moments to your service and record the practice result.

Download CSV worksheet

Open the CSV in your spreadsheet app, replace the illustrative rows and record your actual results. This planning file leaves your Chirply account unchanged.

What the worksheet records

  • Moment
  • Purpose
  • Suggested wording
  • Field or fallback
  • Next record
  • Practice finding

Start with four useful conversation moments

Opening example: Thanks for calling Example Studio. This is Alex. What would you like help with today? This identifies the business and gives the caller room to describe the purpose of the call. Replace the illustrative business and name with your actual identity.

Discovery example: What result are you hoping to achieve, and what would make the next step useful for you? For a support call, ask instead: What were you trying to do, and what happened when you tried it? The question should fit the caller's stated purpose.

Handoff example: I can connect you with the person who handles that. May I summarize what you have told me so you can continue from here? Closing example: We agreed that I will send the details today and you will review them before Thursday. Is that an accurate next step? These are practice examples, not a promise of a particular service.

Build a short, readable script in Chirply

Use one idea per step so the operator can keep listening while using the script.

  1. Open Phone → Call Scripts and create or open the script for the intended conversation. Give it a clear name and What it's for description.
  2. Write the ordered steps for opening, discovery, explanation and next-step confirmation. Keep each What to say entry short enough to scan during a call.
  3. Add objection handlers for actual recurring questions your team has heard. Use the shared objection types so the response and reporting vocabulary agree.
  4. Use Insert field beside What to say for supported contact, deal or operator details. Set If blank, say before inserting a field that might be absent.
  5. Use Preview as with a sample person or selected controlled contact. Check a record with missing optional details and resolve any flagged field tags.
  6. Review Available on calls and, when appropriate, attach the script to a call queue. Practice the full conversation with a teammate before using it with customers.

Practice listening and the handoff

Run two practice calls: one that follows the planned steps and one where the caller needs a different kind of help. Check whether the operator can find the relevant handler and return to the conversation naturally. Record confusing wording in the worksheet and revise the specific step.

Confirm the next action in the CRM after practice. A spoken promise should become an assigned task or another agreed record. Use actual call outcomes and the intended follow-up process so the next operator can understand what happened.

Let AI follow the call is optional and off by default. It highlights relevant script positions using a live transcript; it does not speak. The assist requires transcription and uses the account's connected AI provider credit. Enable it only after reviewing those dependencies.

Improve the script from observed conversations

Review a small set of appropriately available call records with the team and identify one repeated uncertainty. Update the question or explanation that addresses it. Keep factual product scope and service commitments aligned with current operations.

Measure the outcome you actually want, such as a correctly assigned support case or an agreed consultation. Reading every script line is not itself evidence of a useful conversation. Keep the language flexible enough for the operator to respond to the caller.

Readiness checklist

  • Purpose and greeting clear
  • Discovery fits caller intent
  • Fields and missing-value fallbacks previewed
  • Handlers reflect real questions
  • Practice and handoff completed
  • Next action recorded

Record the account, test date, result and responsible person for each check. Use this as your handoff record.

Common questions

Does the AI script assist speak to callers?

The optional assist follows the transcript and highlights script positions or handlers. It is a prompt for the operator and does not speak.

How should support and sales scripts differ?

Support begins with the task and observed problem; sales discovery begins with the desired result and fit. Both should confirm a useful next action and its owner.
